I’m not sure what else I can say about the new ad-blocker on Google searches, but I’ll try to summarise my thoughts on it in this article.
While I personally use ad-blocking software on most of my websites, I’m still a little confused as to what exactly I’m supposed to do to remove the backpage ad-fraud.
The best advice I’ve been given by Backpage’s own customer service representatives, however, is to follow these guidelines and hope that Google removes them before it does.
First off, you need to be logged into Google.
I was able to log in by clicking on the Google logo on my account, clicking the “Log in” button, and clicking on my “account” link on the bottom right.
Then, click on “Settings” and then “Privacy” and select “Delete” from the dropdown menu.
This should delete the backpages AdSense program and any ad banners.
Next, you’ll need to re-enable your ad-targeting program.
Google’s “Settings > Advanced” menu has a section labeled “Ads” that you’ll want to look at.
If you don’t see any ads there, the setting should be “Always”.
Next up, click “Advanced” and you’ll be presented with a section titled “Content”.
In this section, you can choose to “Always” or “Never”.
If it says “Always”, you’re on the safe side.
Once that’s done, click to the “Content” tab, and then to “Advanced Settings” to reorder the ad-adblocker settings.
Now, just click the “Apply” button at the bottom to apply the settings to your website.
Again, it should re-disable the ad program on your site and disable any banner ads on your website to make sure the ad blocker is no longer enabled.
To ensure that you’re still on the same page with your Google account, go back to your “Settings”, “Account” and “Privacy”, then “Settings”.
Finally, click the small “X” to close out the “Settings & Privacy” window and go back into the “AdSense” section.
After this is done, you’re now back in the “Advanced & Privacy”.
Now click “OK” to exit the AdSense & Content section and go to “Settings.”
Finally click the blue “Clear AdSense” button to exit out of the AdBlocker settings window.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully removed Backpage AdSense from your Google searches.
And that’s it!
